Set up a Post Script Printer -- Mac
Before proceeding, be sure to have the following available:
1. AdobePS Printer Driver v8.7 or higher
2. Acrobat Distiller PPD
Setting up AdobePS Printer for Mac
- Launch the setup utility for AdobePS Printer Driver from an installation disk, or a downloaded version from Adobe website by double-clicking on the installer icon.
- Follow the online instructions to progress through the introduction, and click Accept to accept the license agreement.
- Select the Easy Install option and click Install.
- Once the files for AdobePS are copied, click Quit to return to the Desktop.
- The Virtual Printer's custom printer will be available the next time you open the Page Setup or the Print dialog box from within an application. If desktop printing is turned on, a desktop printer will be created at that time. The Virtual Printer plug-in will allow you to create PostScript language files and save it to disk for use at a later time with Acrobat Distiller.
Setting up AdobePS Printer Driver Options
When the Virtual plug-in is properly installed, the Virtual Printer will be created and added to the Page Setup and Print dialog windows. It will not, however, show up in your Choose, since it is not a real printer on your system. To configure the Virtual Printer with the Acrobat Distiller PPD, perform the following steps.
- Choose File > Page Setup from any application, and then select Virtual Printer from the Printer pop-up menu in the top right corner of the dialog box.
- Select Virtual Printer from the pop-up menu in the top left corner of the dialog box (just below the Printer pop-up menu).
- Click Select PPD.
- In either the System Folder\Externsions\Printer Description or the Adobe Acrobat\Xtras folder (or the location of your Adobe Distiller PPD), choose the PostScript Printer Description File "Acrobat Distiller 3.0" and click Select. After the PPD selection is changed, an alert will be presented as a reminder that it is necessary to return to the 'Page Attributes" panel to complete the setup with the newly selected PPD. Once configured, this PPD assignment will be the default setting until you change it.
- Click OK to close the Page Setup dialog box.
