Create a Post Script File

Some applications, such as Adobe Illustrator©, Adobe PageMaker©, and QuarkXpress©, create their own unique PostScript code and may override driver selections.

Consult your application manual for more information on how to properly generate high-quality PostScript files from these software applications.

Windows

Open a document to convert in its authoring application.
Choose File > Print
Choose the Acrobat Distiller printer from the Printer Name pop-up menu. In some applications, you may need to click Setup in the Print dialog box to get access to the Printer Name menu.
Click on Properties, modify other print options you may want, and click OK to close the Properties dialog box. Click OK again.
After checking the “Print to File” checkbox, you will be asked to enter a name and location for the PostScript file you are about to create. Use .ps as the filename extension. The exampe below has a filename of “myfile.ps.” Click OK to create the PostScript file.
Your PostScript file is created and you are ready to distill the file to create your PDF.

Mac

Open the document in its authoring application.
Select Print from the File menu.
Select your Virtual Printer from the Printer pop-up menu on the top-left corner of the Print Dialog box.
Select PostScript Settings from the list of sub-menus
Select PostScript Job option from the Format pop-up menu
Set your options as shown below, then click on Save Settings.
Click Save to create a PostScript file. When prompted, enter a name and location for the PostScript file. Use .ps as the filename extension (for example, “myfile.ps”). Finally, click Save, and your PostScript file will be generated.
